ACT Test Format and How ACT Preparation Makes a Difference

The ACT evaluates core high school subjects under timed conditions. Students can optionally include the Writing section to demonstrate essay skills. ACT Preparation helps students understand the test format, manage time effectively, and maximize performance in each section.

Mastering the ACT Test Structure with ACT Preparation:

  • Total Duration:

    • Without Writing: 2 hours 55 minutes

    • With Writing: 3 hours 35 minutes

  • Sections & Focus:

    • English (45 min): Grammar, punctuation, sentence structure, rhetorical skills

    • Math (60 min): Algebra, geometry, trigonometry, data interpretation

    • Reading (35 min): Comprehension across fiction and nonfiction

    • Science (35 min): Graphs, charts, scientific reasoning, hypothesis testing

    • Writing – Optional (40 min): Essay analyzing multiple perspectives

  • Calculators are allowed for the Math section.

  • The test is offered multiple times per year in paper-based or computer-based formats at selected centers.
